Beard & Mustache Transplant

Recently, the prominence of bearded jöns in movies and TV series has brought beard and mustache transplantation to the forefront. This transplantation, which is very popular not only among Turkish men but also among Arab men, should be divided into three groups as beard, mustache and sideburns.

In the beard and mustache area of men, hair follicles taken from the scalp are transplanted to areas where hair is absent or very sparse. The point to be considered here is that the hair in the nape area is used as a donor in beard-mustache transplantation. As with hair, mustaches also have growth directions. There are curves in mustaches. In beards, there are turns in the middle area and bends in the side area. For this reason, it is necessary to pay attention to the directions and angles of each transplantation site. As in eyebrow transplantation, the channel should be opened at certain angles of 5-10 degrees.

Can it be applied to men with baldness?

Beard and moustache transplantation is a method that can be applied to patients who have no beard and moustache on their face, which is referred to as a slave. In this way, many Arab and Far Eastern patients who came to our clinic have successfully undergone hair and mustache transplantation.

However, the fact that the transplant patient is brunette or blonde does not affect the treatment process in any way. Patients whose hair and beard grow in different colors should be analyzed well. It is useful to warn the patient in advance about the possible outcome.

How is beard and mustache transplantation performed?

Beard and mustache transplantation is a single-session procedure performed under local anesthesia. It is a painless procedure that takes approximately 4-5 hours. The day after the procedure, some minor crusting may be seen in the transplanted area. However, it passes in a short time. The hairs at the end of the transplanted roots fall out after 15 days. This is a normal process. After three months, the hairs start to grow again. Within 6 to 8 months, the patient will have the desired beard and mustache.

Is beard transplantation performed together with hair transplantation?

If the person who will have a beard transplant will also have a hair transplant, the patient must be meticulously evaluated. The hair follicles in the donor area should be examined in detail. It should be calculated that the hair follicles taken from this area will be used for both hair and beard, and a suitable planning should be made accordingly. The hair follicles should be transplanted without damaging or wasting them. In addition, the hair follicles suitable for beard should be used for beard transplantation and those suitable for hair should be used for hair transplantation. Hair and beard transplantation can be performed at the same time by making the color distinction of the hair follicles correctly.

How many roots are used in beard transplantation?

The number of roots to be used in this regard may vary from person to person. The density of the beard to be created or the number of roots needed to cover it if it is missing is decisive. But in general; 250 to 700 roots are needed for the cheek area, 150 to 250 for the favorite area, and 550 to 700 for the chin area.

How long does beard transplantation take?

This may vary depending on the size and sparseness of the area on the person’s face where the beard will be transplanted, the density desired to be achieved and the density of the hair follicle that can be taken from the donor area. But in general, there are application times ranging between 2 – 5 hours.
